Best digital compact camera which takes HD video and performs well in low light?

I'm not that clued up with cameras but I'm in the mood for a new one and I'm getting flustered with all the different ones out there. I want a decent enough camera which can take HD video but also performs well in low light situations.

How to be digital photographer? A few parts to the question, sorry ?

I am very interested in doing photography. I am currently going to school to be a paramedic...go figure. I have a Fujifilm FinePiz Z 10.0 MP/3X Optical Zoom? 2.5" LCD. I haven't taken any photography classes yet, but I was planning on it this Summer.

Fujifilm previews the X-S1 bridge camera

Fujifilm claims that it has "reinvented" the bridge camera - a buzzword used to describe devices that sit between high-end compacts and digital SLRs - with the X-S1, a high-end entry in its new X Series. Thankfully, things look up after that: a clever 'Intelligent Digital Zoom' system offers a doubling of the focal range without, Fujifilm claims, the traditional drop in quality seen on other cameras, while a 'Super Macro Mode' allows the user to... It does, however, feature the three-mode switching of its X10 equivalent: depending on lighting conditions, users can pick between High Resolution, Wide Dynamic Range, or High Sensitivity/Low Noise modes. That's the first of the disappointments, sadly: the EXR CMOS sensor is a compact 2/3in model, which offers a smaller target area when compared to the APS-C-sized model found in the X100.

Read more I've owned the Nikon p90 and p100, so I've got an idea of what these Nikon superzooms are like. One thing that has me puzzled is when taking a photo in the camera's B&W mode, it will not focus properly if fully zoomed out. However I did notice if I ran the zoom out and THEN turned on the video, it seemed to be able to grab focus on the subjects much better. I got to work with the video more, and I had very bad luck getting it to focus. I wasn't planning on buying a new superzoom, but the big jump in zoom to 810mm made me plonk down the money again. Again, doesn't make sense to me, but I will be interested in others that try it and if they have the same experience. This appears to be a glitch to me, it makes no sense, however it is what I experienced while shooting....
